Hey my name is David Jimenez and I am so excited about this weekend at The CHURCH because we are talking about Giving. I love the topic of giving. I get it; money can be a touchy subject especially when it comes to giving it away! We work so hard to earn it, so why give it away? Why does God place such emphasis on giving? How much should we give? Why does God need our money? Giving is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of our Christian walk. When we truly understand the essence of giving it becomes a “game changer!” God wants nothing from us rather he desires everything for us.
The truth is, God doesn’t need our money. He is the creator; he owns it all! So why does God ask us to give 10% of our income to Him? The tithe is a scriptural mandate, created for our benefit. Through tithing God teaches us how to live a prosperous life. God challenges us to give and when we do, He promises to deliver.
Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” The verse begins with: “Bring the full tithe…” as in to give 10% of your whole income. I think it’s important to note that it is 10% of your whole income not just 10% percent of part of your income. We also see, God giving instructions to bring the tithe “into the storehouse,” which is the local church. When we tithe God promises to bless us beyond our expectations. He says, “and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” It’s safe to say, tithing is the formula to being blessed over time.
What I love so much about giving is how profound it is. At its core, giving is a test of our heart. We are challenged to bring 10% of our whole income to the local church, so that the church has the resources necessary to reach others in need. God asks for 10% of an income that isn’t even ours to begin with. Like Psalms 24:1 says: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” We are nearly asset managers for the Lord. So if we view it properly, we aren’t giving our own money away to begin with!
How awesome is it to know that when we tithe the creator of the universe will not only meet our needs, but whenever there is more need His supply will be there waiting. If you don’t already tithe, try it. Take the challenge, I promise it works every time!
